Your first session is all about getting to know you. It’s a chance for you to share what’s bringing you to therapy, your goals, and any concerns or questions you may have. Your therapist may ask about your history, current challenges, and what support looks like for you.
It’s also a space to explore if this therapeutic relationship feels like a good fit—because that connection really matters.
There’s no pressure to “have it all figured out.” You don’t need to prepare anything specific. Just bring yourself, however you are.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and your voice matters. Here are some ways to make the most of it:
Be honest- even if it feels messy or uncomfortable
Bring in whatever's on your mind, even if it feels unrelated
Ask questions about the process or your therapist's approach
Try to reflect between sessions
Give feedback! If something isn't working, your therapist wants to know
Your therapy space is your space. The more you bring your whole self, the more meaningful the work can be
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or simply not like yourself, therapy might be a helpful next step. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit—therapy can support you through life transitions, relationship challenges, past experiences, or a desire for personal growth. It’s a space to explore your thoughts and emotions, build coping skills, and gain a deeper understanding of yourself in a supportive, confidential environment.
If you’ve ever wondered whether therapy could help, that curiosity alone is a good reason to explore it! At Renewed Growth, we’re here to help you figure out what you need and whether therapy feels like the right fit for you.
